It’s no surprise that I often find myself in reading slumps: I’m the kind of reader who doesn’t particularly enjoy reading in seasons of stress or busyness. I wish I were an escapist reader, but I’m really not. It’s also not a shocker to say that the best way to get out of a reading slump is, sadly, to ride it out.
This may be an unpopular opinion, but sometimes we need breaks from reading. I’m usually quick to tell other readers this in the midst of their reading slumpiness, but I’m not as gracious with my own reading habits. So really, I’m writing this blog post for future Mollie to revisit when I find myself in the inevitable reading slump.Read More
Hi all! I’ve missed this space so much, and I’ve missed the cathartic practice of writing. I’ve been journal-praying, but I haven’t devoted a ton of time to self-reflection. I wanted to catch you up on all-things spring/summer. I cannot believe it’s almost June! Where did the time go?! Currently, I’m reading a lot of pregnancy/parenting books. I haven’t shared these online much because it feels like it might be boring to the people who follow me, but maybe there are some other first-time moms or soon-to-be moms out there who would be interested.Read More
Hi, friends. It feels like it’s been ages since I last wrote a blog post! I finally shared the news on Instagram, but my husband and I are expecting! I’m due in early November, and we’re over-the-moon excited. I’m fourteen weeks, and this season of my life has felt overwhelming in the best way. I was surprised to learn just how absent I would be online, but I think the break from social media was exactly what I needed. I guess I was still a content consumer, but I didn’t have the energy to be a content creator, if that makes sense. I feel like I’ve spent the last few months under a rock or lurking in the shadows! I’m feeling more and more like myself every day, but I’m still not completely up to speed.Read More
Do you ever have that feeling that a stack of books is just calling to you, but you already have a “set” TBR or a list of books you’ve already “committed” to read before you can get to that stack? This is why I’m notoriously terrible with TBRs. I’m a mood reader who is always longing for the next book I can read (which is usually a brand-new release that just arrived on my doorstep). *Sigh*Read More
Even though it’s only been a three-day weekend and I’ve been absent from my work for a good bit because of the holidays, it’s felt like a looooooong week. But I’m thankful to be home, and I’m ready to sink back into a good routine.Read More
Hi lovely readers!
Happy New Year! Can you believe it’s already 2019? I’m hoping you’ll see a lot more of me in this space this year—and a lot more of my reading life. I didn’t write a lot of “reviews” last year (I use this word loosely because I tend to be pretty casual/ramble-y on this blog and share musings here and there instead of formal book reviews).Read More
I don’t know about you, but I like to read a lot of different kinds of books leading up to the Christmas season . . . light-hearted, fluffy romance books to match the hallmark movie vibes; beloved favorites for nostalgia (Harry Potter, Chronicles of Narnia, etc.); classic Christmas stories; harder-hitting, warmhearted reads to cozy up with by the tree; and of course my favorite Advent books.Read More
I cannot believe it’s almost November. Truly, I’m shocked how quickly time has gone by. The leaves are beginning to change here in Raleigh, life is settling into a new rhythm, and I find myself craving—more or less—time to curl up on the couch with a good book and some peppermint tea.
But my days are full. Full of good things, nonetheless, but still full. Prioritizing reading has been hard, but I’ve been trying to cut myself some slack about that.Read More
October is the one month I actually feel pressure to read certain kinds of books, and most of the time, that pressure is welcome.
I love the idea of reading spooky or creepy books in the fall, but sometimes I just can't decide which thriller to pick up, and I end up not reading any spooky books. It's like a weird kind of reading paralysis, and it's just plain silly.Read More
September was such a full month y'all. As summer winds down and the fall routines begin, that familiar, cozy feeling is creeping in. The days are getting shorter, the house smells like delicious soup, my wardrobe is full of chunky sweaters again . . . it's all happening.
The beginning of autumn means my schedule is full, too. I'm doing something almost every night of the week.Read More
I'm finally sharing why and how I annotate my books, and you guys, it has enriched my reading so much. I've been full-on annotating books for about two or three months now, and I can't imagine doing it any other way.
I'll admit, I used to be one of those people who would practically hyperventilate when even thinking about writing in books, but that "stage" of my reading life only lasted about two years.Read More
Recently, I posted an Instagram story about how I like to use Post-It notes to get the most out of my reading. People seemed to like that tip, and then my story disappeared.
I've never received so many DMs from people wanting to learn what all the fuss was about! So I decided to share this trick—and more advice on how to get more reading done—in a blog series.Read More
I've spent several days now wondering about people who read for rest and self-care—how it would be lovely to unwind at the end of a hard day with a book or spend a Saturday tucked away between blankets and pages of captivating books, maybe with a face mask on and a glass of wine.Read More
I've decided to give the old book blog a little bit of a facelift. I've always been quite inconsistent with blogging content, but since I'd started the NTWB podcast, I really haven't had much time for my BookTube channel. To be honest, I'm not sure what will become of it, but I know it's just too much work to keep up with both.Read More
Hi readers, I'm finally posting my August TBR! I may be too ambitious—it is August 9 and I haven't picked up a book yet—but I need to commit, prioritize, refocus. Life is crazy, and I don't want my reading to fall by the wayside.
I decided last month I want to try to read at least one book a month that's been on my shelf for more than six months. Lately, I've been checking books out at the library, getting new books from publishers, buying new books, et cetera.Read More
It's been quite a busy season these past few months! I haven't done as much reading as I hoped, but I have been enjoying the bookish community quite a bit! I just got back from a trip to Chicago with some of my favorite bookish friends and BookTubers: Katie, Julie, and Jess. It was so fun to hang out with them for a long weekend in a huge city—especially because this was Jess's first time in the United States!Read More
It's been a while! I promise I haven't completely fallen off the map; I've been making videos and reading and such, but I have to admit, I haven't had the itch to write in quite a while.
Today, however, I'm inspired by the Twittersphere because it happens to be twenty years since J. K. Rowling first publishing the Philosopher's Stone, the first book in the Harry Potter series. #HarryPotter20 has been trending all morning, and I have to say, I've been a bit weepy thinking about the world's love for this particular Wizarding World.Read More
