Currently: Reading, Loving, Working, Feeling

Hi all! I’ve missed this space so much, and I’ve missed the cathartic practice of writing. I’ve been journal-praying, but I haven’t devoted a ton of time to self-reflection. I wanted to catch you up on all-things spring/summer. I cannot believe it’s almost June! Where did the time go?! Currently, I’m reading a lot of pregnancy/parenting books. I haven’t shared these online much because it feels like it might be boring to the people who follow me, but maybe there are some other first-time moms or soon-to-be moms out there who would be interested.

Author Interview: Elliot Brooks, Author of Peace and Turmoil

Hi all! As you may already know, I’ll be sharing the author interviews from the No Thanks We’re Booked podcast on this blog, but I am also hoping to share more author interviews aside from the pod.

Elliot Brooks is an AWESOME author I’ve had the pleasure of working with. I’ve loved getting to know her through editing her novel and BookTube (all links to find her on the internet below!). I don’t normally share about books I’ve worked on, but I’ve really loved how Elliot has marketed her book, and I think she has a lot of wisdom to share with aspiring authors.

The Book We've Always Needed

Becoming by Michelle Obama is so worth the hype, y’all. Listening to it on audio felt like I was having coffee with Michelle herself (she narrates!), learning just what her love and her husband’s love for our country cost her. How it changed her. And how she took that love and forged a path with it—a path for women. A path for people of color. Her passion and love made a way for people to dream big.

Becoming is more than a story of life with the Obamas, and it’s more than a book about politics. It’s a gracious glimpse into all of the untold, intimate moments of making a marriage and a family.

My Morning Routine

I love learning about someone’s morning routine—it makes me feel like I understand that person just a little bit better. Like I know how that person ticks.

And while my morning routine is far from perfect or super rigid—and it is always evolving—I do have a routine that I’m constantly trying to improve.

Ode to the Bloggers: Why I'm Loving Old-School Blogging Again

I’ve been thinking about this topic for a while now and have wanted to share my thoughts with you, but I really wanted to let it “steep.” I revitalized the blog this year and fell back in love with my RSS reader—keeping it old school—and honestly, it’s giving me life.

I was pretty passionate about blogging in 2011–2014(ish). I’d say those were the “golden years” of blogging for me, even though many bloggers would probably say I was late to the game.

Five Reasons I Love Audiobooks

I listen, on average, to one or two audiobooks a month. I love them. Every now and then, I meet someone who’s never listened to an audiobook but has always wanted to.

But for whatever reason, it’s hard to get into the practice or habit of listening to audiobooks when you’re not used to it, especially when other forms of entertainment are out there (and I love listening to a good podcast or binging a Netflix show, too!).

Life Lately: Falling into Fall

I cannot believe it’s almost November. Truly, I’m shocked how quickly time has gone by. The leaves are beginning to change here in Raleigh, life is settling into a new rhythm, and I find myself craving—more or less—time to curl up on the couch with a good book and some peppermint tea.

But my days are full. Full of good things, nonetheless, but still full. Prioritizing reading has been hard, but I’ve been trying to cut myself some slack about that.

No Thanks We're Booked!

It seems this "blog" exists only as a way to display announcements, but one of these days I'm convinced I will return with full force! Life is just too busy these days.

But, in the meantime, I will share some of life's bigger, exciting twists and turns here. My friend Katie and I started a bookish podcast called No Thanks We're Booked, and boy, are we loving it so far. Check out the website for details on what it's all about, how we met, episodes, and all of the social media links.

Rereading Harry Potter . . . Again

It's been a while! I promise I haven't completely fallen off the map; I've been making videos and reading and such, but I have to admit, I haven't had the itch to write in quite a while.

Today, however, I'm inspired by the Twittersphere because it happens to be twenty years since J. K. Rowling first publishing the Philosopher's Stone, the first book in the Harry Potter series. #HarryPotter20 has been trending all morning, and I have to say, I've been a bit weepy thinking about the world's love for this particular Wizarding World.

Ode to Story

Redemptive narratives are a lot like falling in love.

Sometimes you are here with me, and I dream you up out of my conscious mind, as if the gears are turning to put together old bones. Nothing makes sense until it does, and then we're flying, together, promising never to leave anything behind. And sometimes you return slowly, seamlessly making yourself known beyond the sleep and hum of everyday life.
